Ian McCONNACHIE

SENIOR EXPERT – TRANSFORMER  CONSULTANT

Ian is a Senior Consultant in Power Transformer Engineering with 36 years of experience in the large power transformer manufacturing sector.

He began his career in transformer design with ABB T&D Ltd in Dundee, UK, where he spent 10 years developing expertise in the design of large power transformers. He then continued his career with GE Vernova in Stafford, UK, for a further 26 years, progressing through senior technical and leadership roles including Chief Design Engineer, Test Manager, Engineering Manager, and Principal Design Engineer.

Throughout his career, Ian has built deep expertise in both the electrical and mechanical design of power transformers. His roles consistently involved close technical support to manufacturing, testing, and service functions, as well as direct engagement with customers on complex technical matters.

Ian has extensive experience across a wide range of transformer applications, including HVAC and HVDC converter transformers (LCC and VSC). In recognition of his technical leadership and specialist knowledge, he was formally acknowledged as a GE Vernova Expert in the transformer field.

At TRAFOIX, Ian supports clients through high-level technical assessments and advisory services, including:

• Technical specification review for transformer procurement
• Support on transformer-related manufacturing, testing, and site issues
