SENIOR EXPERT – HIGH VOLTAGE BUSHINGS CONSULTANT

John is a senior electrical engineering consultant with over 40 years’ experience in the field of large high voltage transformer and switchgear bushings.

John is keen to share a lifetime of experience and knowledge to achieve the best outcomes for manufacturers, specifiers and end users alike.

With extensive experience as a Design/Development Engineer and High Voltage Test Engineer and latterly as Chief Engineer with a major bushing manufacturer, John has worked with many network owners / operators, generation companies, around the world. These include National Grid (UK), PGCIL (India), SGCC (China), RTE (France). In addition to working with end users, John has also worked with key transformer manufacturers such as GE Vernova, Hyundai, Hyosung and Prolec, and component suppliers such as Weidmann, Trench Group and Hitachi. John has extensive experience of AC and DC bushings using oil impregnated and resin impregnated paper technologies up to the highest rated voltages.

In more recent years, John has been providing technical support to utilities and transformer and bushing factories located in the UK, India, China, Sweden, Italy and France. This support includes specification, design and type test reviews, and bushing failure root cause analysis. Other areas of support and assistance include recommendations on testing and replacement of legacy designs.

In addition to his design experience, John has also experience in factory testing, technical sales support and engineering training of joint venture and utility engineers.

John gained his experience with Trench UK (formerly The Bushing Company) based in Hebburn, UK, during which time he was recognised as a Siemens Senior Expert in his field.

John takes a keen interest in standardisation through BSi, IEC and IEEE and was previously Chairman of IEC SC36A – High Voltage Bushing and a member of the IEEE Transformer Committee and convener and working group member of a number of bushing related standards.
