Damian MANNIX
TRANSFORMER CONSULTANT
Damian is a consultant in Power Transformer Engineering. He has over 37 years of experience within the Power Industry which centres on Extra High Voltage (EHV) and High Voltage (HV) plant and equipment within transmission, sub-transmission, distribution networks and power stations.
Before joining TRAFOIX in 2023 Damian had worked as a Consultant Engineer for over 6 years actively involved with the end-to-end procurement of large power transformers, factory inspections & acceptance testing, evaluation of transformer cyclic loading and field testing activities related to network bushfire mitigation and HV equipment commissioning. Prior to this he worked at AusNet Services and its predecessors for 14 years. In this time, he spent more than 10 years performing on-site high voltage testing & condition monitoring activities including inspections and audits at international and Australian transformer manufacturing facilities. An additional three and a half years working in AusNet Services Asset Management group providing specialist technical engineering support. This role included developing Australian Energy Regulator submissions, annual review and update of asset health assessment reports, power transformer procurement from tender through to commissioning and improving asset data quality by collating data from several sources into one concise database.
Specialities Include:
- Procurement and installation activities of power transformers for new and existing transmission and distribution stations. Provide specialist technical, commercial and design advice to support customer requirements.
- Development of technical specifications for procurement of power transformers and tender evaluation.
- Leading technical inspections associated with the design, construction and testing of new power transformers.
- Calculation of power transformer cyclic ratings for short-term overloading.
- Commissioning of transformers on-site using high voltage and condition monitoring techniques ensuring compliance to the Specification, Australian Standards and factory records where available.
