Kevin NEWMAN (Affiliate)


Kevin is a senior electrical engineering consultant with over 40 years’ experience in the field of large high voltage power transformers.

Kevin has a thirst for knowledge in the realm of power transformer design, development and application and a passion for sharing this knowledge to achieve the best outcomes for manufacturers, specifiers and end users alike.

With extensive experience as a Technical Director / Engineering Manager and latterly as a Senior Support Expert with two major OEMs, Kevin has worked with many network owners / operators, generation companies, EPC contractors and IPPs from around the world. These include National Grid (UK), PGCIL (India), EGAT (Thailand), SPP (Singapore), MidAmerican (US), Bechtel and Downer as well as most utilities in Australia and New Zealand. In addition to working with customers Kevin has also worked with key suppliers to the transformer industry such as Weidmann, Pucaro, Trench, ABB and MR.

In more recent years Kevin has been providing technical support to transformer factories located in India, China and Indonesia. This support includes training and mentorship of the local engineering teams to promote the use of common technology, design optimisation to increase competitiveness of tenders, review of contract designs and customer design reviews. Other areas of support and assistance include failure investigations and root cause analysis.

In addition to his design experience Kevin also has worked in quality assurance and both factory and site testing. Experience in testing includes both hands-on and supervision/review of results.

Kevin gained his experience with GE (formerly Alstom and Areva) based in Brisbane Australia during which time he was recognised as a Senior Expert in his field and before that with Hawker Siddeley Power Transformers in London UK.

Kevin takes a keen interest in standardisation through AS and IEC and participates in CIGRE events as both attendee and presenter.
